If asked, would you be willing to serve as an assembly volunteer? Prior experience is not necessary. New ideas and commitments are welcome. Ideally, each of the committees will reflect a balance of geography, gender, ethnicity, and clergy/lay. Although you don't need to be an assembly voting member to volunteer, you do need to be registered to be selected. Questions? Contact Assembly Answer Lady Ellen Spies, (410)230-2867, (800)869-5492.
These are the positions for which volunteers are being sought:
- Elections Committee
- meets one or more times during the assembly to assist in the election process.
- Memorials Committee or
- Committee of Reference and Counsel
- may each meet at least once before the assembly and several times during the assembly to edit and make recommendations about memorials or resolutions. Ability to write clearly and concisely is helpful. (Memorial: a request for action at the churchwide level. Resolution: comes through Reference & Counsel; calls on the synod to act.)
- Committee of Pages
- is active throughout the assembly, distributing materials and ballots to voting members and visitors. Pages need to be present for the entire assembly. Comfortable walking shoes are a must!
- Communion Assistants
- are needed at various worship services throughout the assembly. If you are selected, you will be asked to assist at only one service. Both lay people and clergy are needed for this job.
