Lutherans set to join Episcopalians for Faith Night in Annapolis

As the Maryland state legislature contemplates whether to join 12 other states that have abolished the death penalty, Lutherans and Episcopalians are invited to learn more about that and other key issues at Faith Night in Annapolis on Mon., Feb. 26, 2007.

This is an annual event sponsored by the Lutheran Office on Public Policy/Maryland (LOPP/MD) and the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Participants will gather at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 1120 Spa Rd., Annapolis, MD 21403, to board a bus promptly at 5:30 p.m. for the short trip to St. Anne's Episcopal Parish House in downtown Annapolis, where they'll be served a light supper and hear briefings on key issues like the death penalty and greenhouse gas reduction. Afterward, participants may make appointments to discuss items of concern with individual legislators at the Maryland State House. The bus returns to St. Martin Church promptly at 9 p.m.

Advance registration is a must. Contact the Rev. Lee Hudson, director, LOPP/MD, 41 State Circle, 4-R, Annapolis, MD 21401; e-mail to messiahodsq@netzero.net; or call (410)342-4543. Requests for donations to help with the bus charter and the food will be made at the meeting site. If you want an appointment with your legislator, be sure to specify your legislative district.

For those coming to the event from the greater Baltimore area, transportation will be available from two locations. Separate reservations for this transportation must be made in advance by calling (410)882-4022 or (443)834-3811. The bus leaves from Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter, 5513 York Rd., Baltimore, at 4 p.m., and St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 901 Courtney Rd., Arbutus, at 4:30 p.m.
