As in previous years, members of the Delaware-Maryland Synod will join together with their Christian brothers and sisters throughout the two-state area to celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Originally established in 1965 by the World Council of Churches, the Week of Prayer traditionally runs from January 18 -25. All are invited to attend either service.
Those in Delaware will gather at the service coordinated by the Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families. It will be held on Sun., Jan. 21, at 4 p.m. at Peninsula-McCabe United Methodist Church, 2200 Baynard Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802. The Rev. Cheryl Taylor Jensen serves as host pastor, and the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Rebman, Vicar General of the Diocese of Wilmington, is the preacher. The service is based on that of the Graymoor Institute, with many local clergy participating. Info: (302)225-1040.
In the central Maryland area, the service is set for Tues., Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at Havenwood Presbyterian Church, 100 Ridgely Rd., Lutherville, MD 21093. The Central Maryland Ecumenical Council is the sponsoring group, with denominational leaders, including Delaware-Maryland Synod Bishop H. Gerard Knoche, participating. Homilist will be Bishop John Rabb, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and chair of the Central Maryland Ecumenical Leaders Group.
