Assistant to the Bishop: The Rev. Virginia K. Price

The Rev. Virginia K. Price was born on June 18, 1960, in Wheeling, W. Va. Her father, Pr. William Kurz, had begun his first call at Christ Lutheran Church, Wheeling, ten days before Pr. Ginny was born. She was raised in that Lutheran Church in America congregation for the next 17 years. The family next moved to Rochester, Pa., to the new call her father received at Grace Lutheran Church.

Pr. Ginny belonged to this congregation through her college years. In 1978 she graduated from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in French. She graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa., in 1988 with a Masters of Divinity degree. Two of her years of study she spent living at the Lutheran House of Studies, Washington, D.C., and studying at the Washington Theological Consortium. She did her Clinical Pastoral Education at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. She completed her internship serving the ecumenical mission congregation located at Santa Klara in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 1989 Pr. Price accepted the call to serve as a pastor on staff at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, Md. Through the eight years of service at Evangelical Church, Pr. Price shared in all aspects of Evangelical's ministry but especially focused on youth ministry, staff administration, stewardship, outreach, and social ministry. In 1997 Pr. Price received a call to serve as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jefferson, Md.

During her ministry, Pr. Price served the Delaware-Maryland Synod through the work of the Candidacy Committee, which oversees preparation of candidates for ordination and other categories of rostered leadership. The last five years of her service on the Candidacy Committee were spent as chairperson.

Pr. Price served St. Paul Church until accepting a new call to serve as assistant to the bishop of the Delaware-Maryland Synod in December 2006.

Pr. Price is married to Carl Price, a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. They have two children.
